Day 3 – not so much

Day 3 was a wash – I got up as early as I could and headed up to the church to set the stage back up from the wildness of the week previous (running the PS1s off generators, no board).

Happened upon the fix for the light board – at first I had no control of the house lights.  Asked for help for the bump buttons (they instantly take the light up to 100%) and it said in two-scene mode, it bumped the upper row of lights – and I remember seeing the scene setting in the board setup.  Changed to single-scene and poof – we had lights.  Reset the submaster settings and we were back in biz.

Sunday, Blake showed a demonstration of our relationship with God – and why churches fail in general.  We can be broken up into 3 portions:  The body, The soul and our spirit.  In Genesis, God breathed His spirit into manand therefore we have a spirit.  I liken my soul to my consciousness or mind, and the body is the well, our body or actions.    Now, at the time man was created, our spirit embraced God openly.  It spoke with the soul, and in turn commanded the body.  At the fall, when man chose to separate himself from God, that spirit portion was all but abandonded.  Now, we make our own decisions.  The law spoke to our soul, church speaks to our soul, and our spirit has nothing to hold onto – namely God – because we are separated.  The teaching of the church – yep, usually speaks to the soul – how we should act and respond, and few speak to the spirit.

However, with the sacrifice of Jesus and the arrival of the new convenant, our spirit can have that relationship with the Father through the Spirit.  Still God, but the Spirit bridges to Jesus, who pleads for us (I John 2:1).  However, as long as we (as a church) speak to the soul, we’re fighting our sinful nature ourselves – not the way God wants.  What we need to do it feed our spirit that hears the Will of God, and then leads our soul and body.

It was an amazing display of our spirituality.  One that made excellent sense to me.   So, how do you feed the spirit?  Do what Jesus did – Blessings, scripture, and service.  For when we are walking in our spirit, we see the good in others and their needs.  We influence others with our actions and attitude.  It’s doing so that God gets the glory.  Wow.  Thanks, Blake – that will speak to me for many times to come.

And what is awesome is our new pastor, Brian, will push the same way.  I’m even more hopeful about what God will reveal in the weeks to come.
