{"id":176,"date":"2009-10-05T11:19:30","date_gmt":"2009-10-05T17:19:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stringer.cc\/blog\/?p=176"},"modified":"2009-10-05T11:19:30","modified_gmt":"2009-10-05T17:19:30","slug":"renewal-rest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/stringer.cc\/blog\/2009\/10\/05\/renewal-rest\/","title":{"rendered":"Renewal (rest)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After many, many months, I&#8217;ve started reading books that Jerry Hollman has recommended for me.\u00c2\u00a0 One, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Qualities-Spiritual-Warrior-Graham-Cooke\/dp\/1934771023\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1254762049&amp;sr=8-1\" target=\"_blank\">Qualities of a Spiritual Warrior<\/a>, and the other, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Experiencing-Depths-Library-Spiritual-Classics\/dp\/0940232006\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;s=books&amp;qid=1254762359&amp;sr=8-1\" target=\"_blank\">Experiencing the Depths of Jesus Christ<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The first, QSW, enhorts the differences in just being a soldier for Christ and a WARRIOR.\u00c2\u00a0 Having a love for &#8220;guy movies&#8221;, warriors are fierce, rugged and manly.\u00c2\u00a0 It is almost the opposite for spiritual warriors except for one thing: initiative.<\/p>\n<p>The second, EDOJC, is a book from the 17th Century that was considered heresy.\u00c2\u00a0 It speaks in a tone meant for the pheasants, the non-elite, the commonfolk.\u00c2\u00a0 Strange how things haven&#8217;t changed much.\u00c2\u00a0 How much spiritual wisdom seems out of reach for the working class, the non-clergy?\u00c2\u00a0 I know of people that do.\u00c2\u00a0 Many times, we just ask &#8220;How do I get closer to God?&#8221;&#8230; and never find an answer.<\/p>\n<p>I read a chapter in QSW this morning that a Warrior&#8217;s best weapon is rest &#8211; specifically rest<em>ing in Christ<\/em>, and it goes with the first two chapters for EDOJC &#8211; how to really pray.\u00c2\u00a0 Now, as a self-proclaimed ADD guy, rest isn&#8217;t easy for me.\u00c2\u00a0 Always thinking about something, schemeing a plan, wondering what&#8217;s next.\u00c2\u00a0 However, in a thread that sounds like it comes from theophostic ministry, Ms. Guyon maps the process in EDOJC to <em>be still and know His is God<\/em>.\u00c2\u00a0 In plain English, with a distinct lack of piety, we get a 400-year old lesson in listening to God.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s my path for the next few weeks &#8211; taking a passage, opening my heart to my spirit, and ignoring my mind&#8217;s dendency to &#8220;LOOK!
