I live in a Hispanic-majority city. \u00c2\u00a0I know there are illegals in my city and the cities around me. \u00c2\u00a0While I normally take offense to paying the healthcare and education of those that came here illegally, a recent story made me believe we need to rethink our illegal deportation policy. \u00c2\u00a0Oh, and the Deer Park Police Dept needs to think about their policy too.<\/p>\n
This is third hand, but goes something like this:
\n“A man fled Mexico because he was a police officer that was marked by the drug cartels. \u00c2\u00a0His wife came with him with their only child. \u00c2\u00a0They have 2 children born here – all three are age range 2-5). \u00c2\u00a0The man makes a\u00c2\u00a0traffic\u00c2\u00a0mistake, mainly out of fear of being pulled over, by a traffic stop that was right in front of him. \u00c2\u00a0He gets pulled over. \u00c2\u00a0He’s found to be illegal and handed over to INS. \u00c2\u00a0He will be deported, killing his chance for a visa, and will be deported. \u00c2\u00a0His wife will follow him with all three kids to support her husband. ”<\/p>\n
While there’s an element of “if you’re a cop, why did you do a bone-headed traffic violation,” there what everyone likes to call a “special circumstances.” \u00c2\u00a0He fled do to danger from his profession. \u00c2\u00a0While it violates the law of the land, the father in me says that he was justified. \u00c2\u00a0 \u00c2\u00a0He works to support his family, she was working until day care got too expensive. \u00c2\u00a0They make food for a roach coach that isn’t even breaking even. \u00c2\u00a0I have a lot – they have nothing. \u00c2\u00a0They speak almost no English.<\/p>\n
In short, we have to rethink our deportation process and get off this “everyone here illegally is a bad thing.” \u00c2\u00a0Some have reason to be here and just want to do their part. \u00c2\u00a0What do you think?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
