1) In an article today from eWeek, a Microsoft-sponsored study report shows that for every $1 Microsoft makes off Windows Vista, the teco-system* around it makes $18. Processor sales, graphics card sales, IT department overtime to install it new — that’s pay to the geeks — (NO ONE recommends the “upgrade”), and oh yes, the training everyone will need — that’s pay to the greeks.
* that’s my word: tech + ecosystem = tecosystem. Also makes you think of the plastic building blocks.
This around the already published reports that over 50% – HALF – of business PCs today cannot run Windows Vista. (HALF, Eddie… HALF).
Seemingly contradictory things… Sure, Microsoft owns the business desktop world, but woo-hoe-hoe… over 1/2 can’t run the NEW version.
oops!
time to buy stock in AMD and NVidia – graphics card sales are going to go up over the next year! (AMD is a two birds with one stone thing – they own ATI now and they make processors).
2) My new year resolution: get rid of Windows.
Oh yes, folks, it’s my goal, my drive, my technical pr0n of sorts. Ditch Microsoft. Not just windows… that includes Word, Outlook, Outlook Express(ly annoying)… I might keep Windows98 around to run some of the apps I use (Adobe mainly), but I’m going to try and completely get off windows. I’m going to start with openSUSE 10.2 – it just came out. Hail to the chief, baby.
The only “kicker” I see is my ever-loving bank’s need to screw us Firefox users. I might see what I can do about that come this new year… (when a geek gets screwed, the geek screws back?) <--- geez, if only that worked in high school.
