34… that’s 9 from 42

Alas, another year, another birthday.

Woke up blah, got the kids up and running (all which sang this chorus to me before we trekked off for school and daycare):

Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you!
You look like a monkey,
Aaaaand you smell like one too!

A rather calm day at work (after taking off Monday and Tuesday feeling sickly), but I arrived to two packages at my desk.

One, my new glasses. After wearing spectacles and contacts since I was 9, glasses are those double-edged swords. First, it’s a style statement. Oh, look at you, you sexy beast! Second, I have found the path to enlightenment with regards to how much they cost – buy ’em cheap and online: www.zennioptical.com. In the real world, lenses are cheap, and bent wires to hold them should be even cheaper and not have the same name as footwear and women’s accessories.

My other package is the embodiment of my new backup philosophy: save it on a hard drive. My WD 250GB external media center (it supports USB2 and FireWire, has an 8-in-1 card reader and is a USB hub with 2 ports on it). All for about $100, and tape dirve START at $700 for this size. Mark this in the DUH category.

The other surprise: two new Xbox360 games from the wife (NFS Carbon and Lost Planet) and a dinner with some really good friends of ours – which was great.

So, all in all, I got to visit with friends, my wife supports my Xbox habit, and my kids have the same warped sense of humor. Who says life isn’t fun?
