A blow to the smart car keys

Scott, a good friend, turned me on to Google Reader, an RRS aggregator. I added a google-created group of “geek” sites and have MAKE magazine as a daily read.

Well, they have a post about the Black Hat seminar in Vegas, specifically about the guy that was the first to hack ID badge that they supplied. I read the blog of subject of this post, who was blogging from the convention, and saw this:

My immediate thought was “wow, now those smart keys are suddenly no issue”. Then, “what would stop the bad guys from using it.” I guess having not having it available is somewhat good, but for real use, they’d need access to the physical key. Then again, what about those “luxury” cars with the push button start?

Hmmmmmmmmm….
