Notes on local going-ons

It’s been busy around these parts.

It’s still Pasadena, y’all…
You may have heard of the “Joe Horn” incident – a man called 9-1-1 to report a robbery at his neighbor’s house – and then to TELL THE COPS that he was “goin’ outsi’ whit his boomstick”. BOOM. BOOM. The robbers are dead. A grand jury is being called. Local black activist Quanell X led a protest outside his house last week. Bikers showed up and revved their engines when he talked. Now THAT’S Pasadena, folks. (30 years ago, it wouldn’t have even been safe for him to show up in Pasadena. Yeah, we were like that). Now, I found the subdivision that occured in is just down the road from me. Yeah.

ADDED: It’s IS noted that the two criminals were approached Mr. Horn when he started to aim. Also, there’s this… http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/front/5378504.html – another homeowner shoots a robber. At least he didn’t call 911 first.

Runoff

The District 1 councilman and a previous major are in a runoff for Pasadena Mayor. Yep – they both old white guys in a city that’58% Hispanic.

The Gun Show

How could is be the south without a GUN SHOW?!?!? It’s as advertised as Monster truck rallies… and defending your property (sic.). Anyhoo, the Pasadena Convention Center hosts the “High Caliber Gun Show” this weekend. I bet turnout will be high – it’s across Red Bluff Rd from Village Grove (of Joe Horn fame).

Just on a personal note

Shuttle got delayed until Jan 10th – mainly because everyone wanted a holiday (NASA shuts down from the Friday before Christmas to after New Years). Our government reasoning at it’s best…
