Weekly Summary, 7/30/2011

This week was my first solo consulting gig. XenServer on Dell servers. Right in my “I’ve done that before” area… and babysat an error that’s plagued them for months with Citrix. Their answer was the smoking gun. Processor settings on new Intel processors. I got an A+++ on my efforts from the customer “the best engaged we’ve had with” and my managers were impressed.

Then yesterday: On a flurry at 4:30pm, we ran to Carmax (we still had the minivan that the Explorer was to replace and my schedule has been so busy…) Getting there, I called the bank and had them fax a payoff into Carmax. They look at it and it was ok to do the deal. Then, another appraisal. Last week, we were $700 upside down based on what we owed – they low balled it (bad day for the buyer, I guess). It was going to take a while, off to the bank to get a check in for my DBA.  Stop at chase.. I have to have a biz account.  Call to Wells Fargo, they said sure, so we’re off down Shaver.  Sheli and I are talking, we’re not paying attention and I pass a PPD patrol car 10 mph over the 35 posted limit.  ARRRRGGGGGHHHHH!  We’re thinking money out for the van, trying to get this check in, long week for both of us, and I’m going, these guys are just doing their job and I was speeding.  Let me just talk to the officer and hope he’s in a good mood.

Here’s the divine intervention: I know the officer.  I apologize for the distraction, we shake hands, and even though he didn’t have to, I drove away ever more appreciative of our officers’ professionalism, their calling to serve, and without a ticket.

I can’t get the check into cash without my DBA paperwork, so on the WAY OUT of the bank, Carmax calls, and they appraised it over what they did last week!  We’re not upside down.

So, a good week at work, a blessing on the road, our van now out of the driveway.

Now,  just to get Bella’s Carpet online!
