Stupid, but smart

As I look back this holiday season, I realize that I’ve done everything I’ve said I wouldn’t for years. I went wild on credit. With Sheli looking for work and me just plodding along with a big house and two car payments, in some ways, we really didn’t have much of a choice when you have about $100 in discretionary income each pay period. Than again, in the true Texas tradition, if you going out, go out in STYLE.

To start, while a complete (but somewhat justified) materialistic purchase was our HDTV. Yeha, the Gov’t is outmoding all regualr sets next year unless you have digital cable or digital satallite. Even though we were holding off until we got HD programming, I happened to get royally pissed at DirecTV when I called about upgrading to HD and called Dish – how basically gave me more channel for cheaper and HD free for 6 months – and the HD DVR for free (totally w00t). So, we had our eye on a Sony SXRD since our bestest friends got one last year and took the time to configure it. Circuit City offered 12 months no interest/payment and an additional 10% off for pick it up in store, so we “signed up for HD glory.” Stupid because of the blatant size, but smart – because football players asses in HD are F-I-N-E. The first thing we watched? The Cowboys game …. in HD…. with my father-in-law. That’s “in the will points” right there. I even had some Pinot Grigio in the fridge.

Another stupid point – although we got each other this big honking TV, we STILL got each other gifts. I got a new jacket, a nice shirt and a Blackberry Pearl from T-Mobile (O – M – G… I love this phone/media player/PIM). I got her a new 12 piece knife set and a rock/waterfall thingy for her massage room – both things she wanted and complete caught her off guard.

So, Sheli will get a job, the Toyota will finally be paid for this year, and we’ll be in good shape to start paying all this stuff down at last. Next year’s gift is already in the works – a ski trip to Colorado. Email me to sign up!!!
